You can become a Christian because God “is patient with you, not wanting any to perish but that all come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9). As John tells us “For God loved the world in this way: He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
God wants you to believe in Jesus. He wants you to become one of His children. That may seem impossible, because God is holy, perfect, sinless and we are not! Romans 3:23 tells us “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory (perfect standard) of God.” Romans 6:23 says “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
All of us have sinned. All of us deserve to spend and eternity separated from God, BUT God sent His Son Jesus to save us from “our sins” (Matt. 1:21). Paul tells us, “But God proves His own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Rom. 5:8).
Jesus, God in the flesh (John 1:1,14) came to earth so that we who are sinners might be saved! What do I have to do to accept Gods’ gift of eternal life? Romans 10:9-10 tells us this “If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord’, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. One believes with the heart, resulting in righteousness, and one confesses with the mouth, resulting in salvation.”
Do you know that you are a sinner, will you Admit it to yourself and to God?
Do you Believe that Jesus came to save you? He died for your sin and rose from the dead for you? Do you believe it not just in your head, but with all your heart?
Will you Confess your sin to God? It’s not enough to Know about Jesus and that you can be saved. Will you call out to Him in prayer and faith to save you? Paul said in Romans 10:13 “For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
Becoming a Christians is a easy as A, B, C.
First you need to realize you are NOW part of God’s family! This is a worldwide, global family of believers. John 1:12
Second you need to become part of a local family of believers (Acts 2:42-47). You do this by finding a local, Bible believing, Jesus loving, community serving and loving church family! Find a friend or go to a church leader and tell them what you have done to become a Christian and that you want to become a part of that local church family. They will (or should) encourage you to get involved in a class that teaches the Bible so you can grow in your knowledge and understanding of the things of God. A church family will encourage you, pray for you, be an example for you and will help you learn to walk through the trials of life by faith!
Next; At some point they will also encourage you to be baptized. Let's call it your first act of obedience as a Follower of Christ!
How Do I become a member of West Lake? Go Here
Baptism does NOT save you from your sin, it is a public way to tell others what Jesus has done in your life. It is a public statement that Jesus is your Lord and Savior. Jesus was baptized at the beginning of His public ministry (Matt. 3:13-17). He told His disciples just before He ascended back into heaven to “baptize” those who believe in Him (Matt. 28:19-20). Romans 6:1-4 tells us that baptism is a picture of what Jesus did for us. When a person is placed under the water in baptism it is a picture of Jesus death and burial. As a person is brought up out of the water it is a picture of Jesus resurrection to new life.
We have a Baptismal pool at West Lake. Think of it like a large walk in tub. The water, (It's just water from the tap) is heated to a comfortable temperature. It has hand rails for your safety. There is a stool to sit on, robes to cover you up and changing rooms for your privacy.
During Baptism you will be put under the water VERY Briefly, but you can hold your nose! A minister will be there to help you up and out!
Simple, but a beautiful visual of Jesus death, burial and resurrection and your death to the old you and renewal through faith in God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit!
Jesus in John 3:16 said that whoever believes in Him will have eternal life.
That means when you truly believe in Him, your salvation is sure and certain!
John in the little letter of 1 John helps people know that they are children of God!
John said, “I have written these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may KNOW that you have eternal life” (1 John 5:13).
How can you know you have met Jesus?
In 1 John you will learn that knowing Jesus will change your life! He will teach you and help you experience victory over sin and the darkness sin brings! He will give you a love for obeying God and for His people in your local church.
Knowing Jesus does not mean you will not fight to overcome sin. It means you do not fight alone; He is with you and in you (1 John 4:4) and your church family is also with you (l1 John 4:7-8).
We will be glad to talk to you more about ANY of these questions. Just let us know and we will make an appointment to visit with you in person.
